Overview

The SPH Engineering GPR Basics – Data Processing & Interpretation (GPR-2) training is the second-level GPR course, focused on processing and interpreting airborne GPR survey data acquired via SkyHub. Covering SEG-Y data fundamentals, Prism 2 software workflow, standard processing steps, radargram interpretation, velocity analysis and depth estimation, and GIS export for deliverable generation — it equips operators with the complete post-acquisition skill set for utility detection, void mapping, and pavement assessment projects. Prerequisite: GPR-1 training.

GPR Data Processing & Interpretation. Raw Data to Deliverable.
The GPR-2 training covers the complete post-acquisition GPR workflow — from understanding SEG-Y format and trace geotagging through Prism 2 project setup, standard processing steps (time-zero correction, background removal, gain adjustment, filtering, migration), radargram interpretation for hyperbolic reflections, layer boundaries, voids, and anomalies, velocity analysis and depth estimation, and GIS export for client reporting. Practical exercises use real airborne GPR datasets from SkyHub-integrated surveys. Prerequisite: GPR on a UAV – Level 1 (GPR-1) training.

Prism 2 Processing Workflow. From Import to Processed Radargram. Students learn the complete Prism 2 data processing workflow — project setup, SEG-Y import, time-zero correction, background removal, gain adjustment, filtering, and migration — producing clean, processed radargrams ready for interpretation and target identification.

Radargram Interpretation. Identify Targets with Confidence. Training covers the practical skills for reading and interpreting GPR radargrams — identifying hyperbolic reflections from point targets, layer boundaries, void signatures, and subsurface anomalies — combined with velocity analysis and two-way travel time to depth conversion for accurate target depth estimation.

GIS Export & Deliverable Generation. Client-Ready from the Workstation. Students learn to export processed GPR data and interpreted results to GIS-compatible formats — producing professional deliverables for utility detection reports, void mapping documentation, pavement assessment submissions, and regulatory compliance packages.

The SPH Engineering GPR Basics – Data Processing & Interpretation (GPR-2) training is the second-level GPR course, focused on processing, interpreting, and delivering results from airborne GPR survey data. Building on the system operation and data acquisition skills covered in GPR-1, this course equips operators with the practical skills to process SEG-Y GPR datasets in Prism 2, interpret radargrams for subsurface target identification, and produce professional deliverables for utility detection, void mapping, and pavement assessment projects.

Training is delivered at the SPH Engineering office or via video conferencing. Price is per group of up to 4 students.

Prerequisites

  • Completed GPR on a UAV – Level 1 (GPR-1) training (or equivalent knowledge and field experience)
  • Access to GPR datasets for processing exercises (own survey data or SPH Engineering-provided sample datasets)

Training Outline

  • GPR Data Fundamentals — Understanding SEG-Y format, trace geotagging, and the structure of airborne GPR datasets acquired via SkyHub
  • Prism 2 Software Introduction — Overview of the Prism 2 data acquisition and processing software interface, project setup, and data import workflow
  • Basic GPR Processing — Applying standard processing steps: time-zero correction, background removal, gain adjustment, filtering, and migration for improved target resolution
  • Radargram Interpretation — Reading and interpreting GPR radargrams: identifying hyperbolic reflections, layer boundaries, voids, and subsurface anomalies
  • Velocity Analysis & Depth Estimation — Determining signal velocity in the ground medium and converting two-way travel time to depth for accurate target depth estimation
  • GIS Export & Deliverable Generation — Exporting processed GPR data and interpreted results to GIS-compatible formats for client reporting and regulatory documentation
  • Practical Exercises — Processing and interpreting real GPR datasets from airborne surveys, identifying targets, and producing deliverable outputs
