The SPH Engineering UgCS Basics (Trainer Lead) training is the recommended starting point for all new UgCS users and Integrated Systems operators. Combining pre-recorded video lessons with a live trainer-led session, it covers the essential UgCS skills required for mission planning, DJI drone connection, photogrammetry, and data management — providing the foundational knowledge required before advancing to specialized payload and survey training courses.
Training is delivered via a combination of self-paced pre-recorded video lessons and a live Zoom session with a trainer, or in-person at the SPH Engineering office. Duration: up to 4 hours. Price is per group of up to 4 students.
Prerequisites
- Trainees must have practical experience manually flying a drone, including manual takeoff and landing
- The drone type used for training must match the drone intended for use with the Integrated Systems solution
- At the start of the session, the trainer will ask participants to describe their flight experience
Training Outline
-
Installation & Components — Installing UgCS and understanding the software components and interface
-
Simple Mission Planning — Creating and configuring basic drone missions in UgCS
-
DJI Drone Connection — Connecting to a DJI drone using an Android device and the UgCS for DJI application
-
Flight Simulation — Simulating a mission using a DJI drone in flight simulation mode for safe pre-flight validation
-
Telemetry Review — Viewing and interpreting saved flight telemetry data
-
Photogrammetry Mission Planning — Planning photogrammetry missions for aerial mapping and survey
-
UgCS Mapper — Using UgCS Mapper to generate orthophoto maps and Digital Surface Models (DSM), and importing map and DSM data back into UgCS
-
Import/Export — Importing and exporting KML files, maps, missions, routes, and telemetry data
-
Offline Operations — Working with UgCS without an internet connection
-
Vehicle Profiles — Configuring and managing vehicle profiles in UgCS
-
Route Operations — Working with routes: duplicating, converting routes to waypoints, and other route management operations
