Overview

The SPH Engineering Methane Leak Detection Using Drone training is the only specialized course covering the complete aerial methane survey workflow with the Laser Falcon sensor. Over up to 2 days, operators learn methane detection principles, drone system assembly, flight planning for pipelines and area surveys, weather impact assessment, True Terrain Following for consistent sensor altitude, and data processing for leak identification and reporting. Delivered at the SPH Engineering office or remotely. Priced per group of up to 4 students.

Complete Methane Survey Workflow. Theory to Data Processing.
This training covers every stage of the drone-based methane leak detection workflow — from understanding the principles of Laser Falcon infrared absorption spectroscopy and ppm×m output, through system assembly, mission planning for linear and areal survey targets, weather condition assessment, and True Terrain Following configuration, to post-flight data processing and leak identification. Students leave with the practical skills to independently plan, execute, and process aerial methane surveys for pipeline inspection, gas infrastructure monitoring, and environmental compliance operations. Prerequisites: UgCS Basics and UgCS AreaScan and True Terrain Following Missions training.

Pipeline & Area Survey Flight Planning. Mission-Ready Skills. Students learn flight planning fundamentals for both long linear objects (pipelines, utility corridors) and areal survey targets — including grid pattern design, coverage optimization, and how to adapt mission parameters for different survey environments and regulatory requirements.

Weather Conditions & True Terrain Following. Real-World Operational Readiness. Training covers the practical impact of wind, precipitation, snow, and solar radiation on Laser Falcon detection performance and data quality — and how to use True Terrain Following (TTF) to maintain consistent sensor altitude over variable terrain for reliable, repeatable methane survey results.

Flexible Delivery. Up to 4 Students Per Group. Training is delivered at the SPH Engineering office or remotely via video conferencing — making it accessible to teams worldwide without travel requirements. Each booking covers a group of up to 4 students for up to 2 days of instruction.
