Overview

The SPH Engineering GPR on a UAV – Level 1 (GPR-1) training is the foundational course for operators deploying drone-mounted ground-penetrating radar systems. Covering GPR principles, system assembly, SkyHub GPR software configuration, AreaScan mission planning for GPR surveys, True Terrain Following for consistent sensor altitude, data acquisition, and SEG-Y data export — it provides the complete practical foundation for executing airborne GPR surveys with SkyHub-integrated systems and UgCS. Delivered at the SPH Engineering office or remotely, for groups of up to 4 students.

UAV GPR Foundations. System Setup to Data Export.
The GPR-1 training covers the complete foundational workflow for drone-mounted GPR operations — from understanding GPR principles (frequency selection, depth vs. resolution trade-offs, data quality factors) through system assembly, SkyHub GPR software configuration, AreaScan mission planning optimized for GPR data acquisition, True Terrain Following for consistent sensor-to-surface distance, live data acquisition with real-time UgCS monitoring, and SEG-Y data export for processing in Prism 2 or compatible GPR software. Prerequisites: UgCS Basics and UgCS AreaScan and True Terrain Following Missions training.

GPR Mission Planning. Optimized for Subsurface Data Quality. Students learn to plan AreaScan missions specifically optimized for GPR data acquisition — including line spacing, flight altitude, speed, and overlap parameters calibrated to target depth and resolution requirements for utility detection, void mapping, and pavement assessment applications.

True Terrain Following for GPR. Consistent Data Quality on Every Pass. Training covers the use of True Terrain Following (TTF) to maintain a precise, consistent sensor-to-surface distance across variable terrain — the critical operational parameter for uniform GPR data quality and reliable subsurface target detection throughout the survey area.

SEG-Y Export & Data Review. Processing-Ready from Landing. Students learn to review acquired GPR data, understand SEG-Y format with trace geotagging, and export datasets for processing in Prism 2 or compatible GPR processing software — completing the full acquisition-to-deliverable workflow in a single training course.
