The SPH Engineering GPR on a UAV – Level 1 (GPR-1) training is the foundational course for operators deploying ground-penetrating radar systems on UAV platforms. Covering the complete GPR-on-drone workflow from system assembly and configuration through mission planning, data acquisition, and initial data review, it equips operators with the practical skills to execute airborne GPR surveys using SkyHub-integrated GPR systems and UgCS flight planning software.
Training is delivered at the SPH Engineering office or via video conferencing. Price is per group of up to 4 students.
Prerequisites
- Completed UgCS Basics training (or equivalent knowledge and experience)
- Completed UgCS AreaScan and True Terrain Following Missions training (or equivalent)
- Basic familiarity with the GPR system hardware to be used
Training Outline
-
GPR Fundamentals — Principles of ground-penetrating radar: how GPR works, frequency selection, depth penetration vs. resolution trade-offs, and key factors affecting data quality
-
System Assembly & Configuration — Assembling and configuring the complete UAV-mounted GPR system including SkyHub onboard computer, GPR sensor, and altimeter for True Terrain Following
-
SkyHub GPR Software Setup — Configuring the SkyHub GPR software package for the specific GPR system in use
-
Mission Planning for GPR Surveys — Planning AreaScan missions optimized for GPR data acquisition: line spacing, flight altitude, speed, and overlap considerations for target depth and resolution requirements
-
True Terrain Following for GPR — Using TTF to maintain consistent sensor-to-surface distance for uniform GPR data quality across variable terrain
-
Data Acquisition — Executing GPR survey missions and monitoring real-time data quality via UgCS during flight
-
Data Review & Export — Reviewing acquired GPR data, understanding SEG-Y format with trace geotagging, and exporting data for processing in Prism 2 or compatible GPR processing software
